Mark Twain is credited with saying, “Don’t use a five-dollar word when a fifty-cent word will do.” English is confusing, especially if it isn’t your first language.  Don’t make it more confusing by using five dollars when fifty cents will work as well.  Can you use “improve” instead of “ameliorate?” Or “know” instead of “comprehend?” Communicate in plain language. Everyone will understand you!
