Why do we have a renewals process?

Several of our Leadership Teams (LT) asked us to create a way that they could remove a marginal member from their chapter. At that time, the only way a member could be removed was if they couldn’t fulfill the attendance requirement or if they didn’t pay their renewal invoice.

When does a member renew?

Each member has her own renewal date which is usually the month and day that she was initially approved. However, that date may change if she is on the LT because she doesn’t pay dues while on the LT.

If I approve her renewal ahead of her due date, does that mean that she will have to pay ahead of her due date?

No. Example: If a member’s renewal date is 3/15 and her invoice goes out to her on 2/18, her due date will be 3/22 because we give each member a week after her renewal date to pay. It’s always preferable to give your member as much time as possible to pay the invoice.

How do I determine whether or not to renew a member?

Consult the Renewals Policy for more information. This is an opportunity to meet with your member to acknowledge her strengths and successes and also to mentor her if needed. A checklist is sent out with the renewals request that contains criteria that may be helpful in making your decision. It is rare that the decision is made to terminate a member, so be sure that you are comfortable with that decision and that it is handled tactfully.
